A FURTHER eight patients died at across Halton and Warrington hospitals over the weekend after contracting coronavirus.

The figure was confirmed by Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in its daily Covid-19 update.

As a result, the trust’s coronavirus death toll now stands at 196.

It was confirmed on Thursday last week that the number of patients being cared for at trust hospitals had exceeded that at the height of the first wave.

Sadly, this continues to be the case, with 147 Covid-positive inpatients being cared for as of today, Monday, including 17 in intensive care.

This is a rise of seven patients compared to Friday, with no change in the number of ICU patients.

Since the start of the pandemic, the trust has tested 32,291 inpatients and members of the community for the virus.

Of these, 2,155 tested positive.

A total of 616 patients at trust hospitals who had contracted the virus have since recovered and been discharged.
