YOUNGSTERS at a Widnes primary school dug deep to help others in need.

Children and staff at St Gerard's Catholic Primary & Nursery School made a substantial donation to Widnes Foodbank following a high successful 'Harvest Donation - Non-Uniform Day' at school.

Edd Naylor, assistant head teacher said: "Once again, we are moved by the generosity of the parents/carers and children within our school community.

"During testing times it is reassuring to see everyone coming together and supporting those who are in need."

"During the morning staff members visited Widnes Foodbank to handover the children's donations and chatted to the volunteers to find out more about what they do for the community.

"The reading from Matthew: 39 - 'Love thy neighbour' is most certainly the case with Widnes Foodbank being in close proximity to our school.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that no one is left hungry."
