FORMER Widnes Vikings player Jamie Durbin has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

The 36-year-old was handed a 24-week imprisonment suspended for a year at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday, October 19.

Durbin, of Greenway Road, had previously been given a restraining order for harassment in June after attending a relative’s home in Widnes on several occasions over a three-day period and demanding alcohol and money.

But he breached this order by attending her address on Saturday, October 17.

This was the halfback’s second breach, having previously gone to the property in August – after which he was handed a 12-month community order.

Durbin – who came through Warrington Wolves' academy before signing for the Vikings in 2005, initially on loan – admitted breaching a restraining order and breaching a community order.

He was handed a new 12-month community order with a 35-day rehabilitation activity requirement and told to pay a £128 victim surcharge in addition to the suspended sentence.

His restraining order was also extended until March next year.

Durbin was banned from rugby league for two years in 2006 after testing positive for having anabolic steroids in his system while turning out for Widnes, before returning to the sport with Leigh Centurions in 2009 and later turning out for North Wales Crusaders.
