MAIL readers have been reacting to the news Barrow is to get a £25million boost.

Projects in the pipeline which have been boosted by a £25m investment by the Government include: a university campus, improved homes, community hubs and better cycling infrastructure.

The town has been offered a deal worth up to £25million through the Government’s Towns Fund to boost the local economy, the Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick announced.

Mail readers gave their views on the plans.

Northern Lass said: "Why not put a vote to the people of Barrow. Are there not enough new homes being built?.

"Why not do what Liverpool did? Sell empty terrace houses for £1, build something for kids like Morecambe Jump Rush will bring money into Barrow rather than out of town Cycle lane ???

"Fix roads and weeds first. Something to bring tourists from the Lakes."

Peter Sullivan said: "Cycling infrastructure - well, let's hope they use some common sense for a change.

"Roads have been resurfaced in the past which could easily have incorporated a cycle lane.

"And when a cycle lane is sometimes built, the design is not great."

Johnny Gee said: "Well I'm sure this is good news generally speaking, but aren't there already cycle lanes on Abbey Road?"

Paul Griffiths said: "Well done to the local council and the Towns Deal Board who have secured this funding."

Tim Bartlett said: "Don't spend any of it on town centre it's a waste."

Emma Banks said: "We need people's basic needs met first : food shelter etc. So many using food banks etc."

Stephen Snell said: "We don't want new cycle routes.

"We want our roads repaired and the cycle routes we do have repaired and unblocked.

"How long are those concrete blocks on Greengate hill gonna stay there? Been there since April and blocking cycleway."
