WARRINGTON and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed its first coronavirus-related death in three weeks.

The patient died on Monday, September 14, after testing positive for Covid-19.

This is the first death related to coronavirus at the trust since August 24.

It brings the total number of coronavirus deaths across the two sites to date to 140.

Halton currently has the 31st highest infection rate of the 315 boroughs of England, with 60.3 new cases per 100,000 residents in the seven days leading up to September 12.

A total of 78 people in Runcorn and Widnes tested positive for Covid-19 during this period.

Nationally, a further 11 deaths among confirmed coronavirus patients were reported today - with three of these coming in the north west.

They were aged between 69 and 98, and all had known underlying health conditions.

Across England, the death toll now stands at 29,687.
