TWO fire engines were called out yesterday to save a seagull with a broken wing stranded in Manchester Ship Canal.
at around 6.20pm, firefighters from Runcorn and Penketh were called by the RSPCA to reports of an animal rescue on the Manchester Ship Canal.
On arrival on Old Coach Road, they found a seagull with a broken wing which was stranded on floating debris in the water.
The RSPCA had attempted to use poles to rescue the bird but were unable to reach it.
Firefighters used a water board to rescue the seagull and bring it to safety, it was then handed to the care of the RSPCA.
The crews were detained at the scene for around 40 minutes.
