FORMER Warrington Wolves full-back or winger Jack Johnson has signed for new Canadian outfit Ottawa Aces after becoming the latest player to leave Widnes Vikings.

Johnson, 24, left The Wire midway through last year to take up a deal with Featherstone Rovers but he signed for Widnes for the 2020 campaign that has since been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A stack of his former Vikings and Warrington teammates have already been announced by Ottawa in their inaugural 2021 squad.

Head coach Laurent Frayssinous states that he is “over the moon" to sign Johnson and added: "Jack comes from a great system and he will add a lot to our squad with his experience, his speed and his try-scoring record and I am looking forward to seeing him around his teammates for the start of the new season."

Johnson added: “I’m really looking forward to getting over there and get back to playing some rugby.

“I’m looking forward to getting started with a brand new team and getting over to Canada.”

He will be in good company with 2020 Vikings teammates Olly Ashall-Bott, Sam Wilde, Tom Gilmore, James and Ted Chapelhow and Pat Moran, who, along with another recruit Ellis Robson, were Johnson's teammates at Warrington.
