THE principal of Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College has praised her outgoing year 13 students following an A-level results day like no other.

With exams cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, students in England received grades based on teachers' predictions, which were then moderated by exam boards based on past school performance and students' performance.

Despite the pandemic uncertainty, Sir John Deane's staff were still able to celebrate with students and their parents on Thursday, as the majority successfully secured their first choice university.

Principal Kerry Kirkwood said: "We are immensely proud of each and every one our students and especially because of their evident strength of character, endless enthusiasm and ambition.

"The 2020 year group will have a very special place in the collective memory of the college for a long time and teachers and mentors were delighted to see them again and wish them well.

"The college recognises the high calibre of Sir John Deane’s students and trusts absolutely that they will make their own individual and extraordinary contributions to our society in the future."
