DW gym in Warrington will close this week, members have been told.

The firm called in the administrators today, Monday, due to the effects of coronavirus.

And members have been told the gym, on Mersey Street, will shut tomorrow, Tuesday.

The message said: "Following the onset of Covid-19, the future viability of the DW Sports business has become materially uncertain due to the enforced closure of both the gym portfolio and the stores on March 20 and March 23 respectively.

"This extremely challenging business environment has unfortunately resulted in Dave Whelan Sports Limited (‘DWS’) being placed into Administration and Graham Newton and Ryan Grant, partners in BDO LLP, have been appointed as the Joint Administrators (‘the Administrators’) today.

"This administration impacts all of our DW Sports retail stores and some gyms. Fitness First remains a separate company and its 43 clubs are unaffected by the administration of DW Sports.

"Unfortunately our Warrington Gym will be closing.

"It is our intention to work with the administrators to ensure a number of our sites remain operational in the long term, however, we regret to inform that the gym at Warrington will close for business at 8pm on Tuesday.

"This has clearly been a very difficult decision for the business, in many of the areas we have become a real part of the fitness community and we thank the staff and our customers for the many years we have enjoyed at each and every site."
