POLICE are investigating an arson attack at a former pub in Runcorn.

Shortly before 4.30pm yesterday, Monday firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a derelict building in Hillcrest, Halton Brook.

Two fire engines attended, one from Runcorn and one from Widnes

On arrival crews discovered a small amount of rubbish on fire inside the former pub.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet.

Firefighters then looked for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.

They also used a large fan to clear smoke from the building.

Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and 45 minutes.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
