A PERSON has died after being hit by a train at Eastham Rake station this morning.

Emergency services were called to reports that a person had been struck by a train shortly before 8.30am.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene by British Transport Police officers.

There was disruption to Chester to Ellesmere Port line services while Network Rail and emergency services dealt with the incident.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.27am on Eastham Rake station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"Officers are in the process of preparing a report for the coroner."
