WORK to demolish Hartford’s college campus is set to start this month, the site’s developer has confirmed.
The fate of the Warrington and Vale Royal College campus on Chester Road was sealed in March this year after a controversial housing scheme was approved by planning chiefs.
The scheme could see up to 128 new homes built in the college’s place – 20 more than stated in the planning application given the green light by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Among the buildings set to be bulldozed is an arts block which cost £7.5 million to build and only opened in 2012.
Developer Lane End Group has confirmed that work is currently underway to remove materials from the site which may be a fire hazard.
And demolition crews will be called in within weeks to prepare the area for housing.
A spokesman for Lane End Group said: “We are removing rubbish and materials left by the college which could be a fire hazard.
“Actual demolition works will commence in a couple of weeks.”
