A HAIRDRESSER is looking forward to the challenge of repairing DIY haircuts attempted during lockdown as she prepares to reopen next week.

Leah Rawding, owner of Hairdressing at Number Four in Seaham, has been adapting her salon for the all important reopening date on July 4.

For the past three months, Ms Rawding and thousands of other salon owners have been unable to open following the coronavirus outbreak in March.

But ahead of reopening, The Northern Echo toured Ms Rawding's salon to see what safety measures were in place.

Perspex screens spaced 2m apart, plastic visors, and a 'track and trace' book are among the changes Ms Rawding has had to implement with just a few weeks' notice.

She said: “We’re asking our clients to kindly wait outside until their appointment time.

"Then an assistant will go to front door, to bring them in, once inside they will then be asked to hand sanitise and then pop on a face mask.

“They’ll be taken through to reception where we will have the track and trace book, where you have to sign your name, date it and then again when you leave the salon.

“You'll then come through, where we will be wearing our visors and we will do a full consultations – we’ve got protective screens in our salon and these are kept 2m from each of our staff.

“We won’t be having any magazines, we won’t be serving any hot drinks – we will be serving cold refreshments.

"Were asking clients to bring in a large shopping bag just so they can put their personal items in and that can be kept near them.

“It’s been since March 23 since we last seen all of our clients and we’re all really looking forward to seeing them, all the chat, all the gossip and one big thing we’re really looking is the lockdown haircuts.

"I’ve see quite a few in the all supermarkets so bring it on."
