A FURTHER two people have died after testing positive for coronavirus across the North-East and North Yorkshire.

NHS Trusts in County Durham and on Teesside recorded two new Covid-19 deaths in hospitals.

It now brings the total Covid-19 death toll in our region to 1,725 since the outbreak began.

It comes as a further 55 people died in hospitals across England.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 55 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,490.

"Patients were aged between 49 and 98 years old.   One patient, aged 70, had no known underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed."

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 254 was 253 

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust – 325 no change

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 116 no change

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 214 no change

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 80 no change

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) –  7 no change 

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) – 7 no change
