A RUNCORN husband and wife are proving to be quite the duo by cooking over 1,000 meals for the elderly and vulnerable during lockdown.

Glyn and Linda Davies from Runcorn have cooked over 1,023 hot meals for elderly and vulnerable people who are self isolating.

Glyn, who has been furloughed from his job at the Travelodge in Widnes, said: "We have been doing this since the beginning of April. When we started we thought it would just be a few meals but it soon added up.

"We usually provide food on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We start prepping the night before and start early the next morning to have the meals ready for lunchtime which includes pasta bolognese, lasagne and chicken curry."

Suzanne Cavanagh from the Queen of Hearts pub informs Glyn and Linda how many people they need to cater for and she collects the meals and delivers them to the people or they can call at the couple's house to collect them.

Glyn and his wife self-finance most of the food and cooking equipment needed but have also received donations from family and friends;.

The couple also extend their help to local NHS staff and midwives and HOPE charity (Helping Ordinary People Everyday) which helps struggling families in Widnes and Runcorn.

Glyn added: "We are a big community. A lot of people have a different outlook on life now. They are doing more things to help others and there are still people out there needing help."
