A BRAVE teaching assistant has had her head shaved to thank doctors and nurses for saving the lives of coronavirus patients.

Winsford mum Sue Johnson set up a JustGiving page and has already raised more than £1,500 for the NHS.

"It's absolutely brilliant," said Sue, 60, a specialist teaching assistant at Middlewich High School. "I felt a little apprehensive but it's a small sacrifice to make when you consider what our NHS heroes do every day.

" I want to thank everyone for donating."

Sue, who signs for deaf pupils, took the plunge because she couldn't get her hair cut during lockdown

Neighbours watched at a distance on Saturday as son Ben, 29, shaved off his mum's locks in the garden of her home in Darnhall.

To show there were no hard feelings, the pair celebrated afterwards with a glass of bubbly.

"Having people support me and having a joke was really good," said Sue. "I really enjoyed it. You do feel the cold but I'm going to brave it and go shopping without my bandana."
