A DELIBERATE fire gutted a car on a road in Blackburn.

The owners of the car were alerted to the fire at approximately 6am today when fire crews were called to Whalley New Road, following reports of a car set alight.

The car was destroyed in the fire, as police attended the scene and continue to investigate the incident.

Nobody was injured in the fire which saw crews at the scene for about 45 minutes.

A spokesman for Blackburn Fire Station said: "We urge members of the public to come forward if they have any information and to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
