A COUNCILLOR has warned of more fly-tipping as rubbish is dumped in a Hampshire village.

Fly-tippers have dumped waste on Rownhams Lane, North Baddesley which includes a number of household items from a sink to food packaging.

Now, Councillor Celia Dowden, who represents North Baddesley on the borough council, has warned of more "anti social" behaviour like this since waste centres have closed amid the coronavirus.

She said: "The Coronavirus has caused Hampshire County Council to close all waste centres.

"Residents are more likely to be using this stay at home time, to organise and sort, house and garden.

With no community outlet for waste, we could see more of this antisocial behaviour.

"Residents must act responsibly and store any clearance Items. We all need to work together to overcome this pandemic and we do not need individuals taking advantage.

"They are breaking the government’s instructions to Stay indoors, as well as blighting our countryside areas."

One resident of North Baddesley said: "It makes my blood boil.

"There's no excuse for it even though the council tips are closed at the moment.

"It spoils the look of the village, and gives the wrong impression to people passing through it. I hope they catch them."

Cllr Dowden added: "I recognise not everyone has a garden area, garage or shed to enable them to easily store any clearance waste.

"It will depend on the length of the lockdown, but the County may have to consider setting up limited opening times of centres.

"Using strict regulations to keep staff and residents safe during their operational hours."

The rubbish was spotted on Monday, April 6 by a passing resident, though it is not known when the waste was dumped.
