A MAN has been arrested following a stand-off on the Silver Jubilee bridge.

Fire crews and police were called to rescue the person yesterday, Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At around 5.30pm on Tuesday, police officers and firefighters were in attendance at the Silver Jubilee Bridge between Runcorn and Widnes following concerns for the welfare of a man.

"Following discussions with the man he voluntarily came to a safe place."

The 33-year-old was subsequently arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and also on suspicion of assault in relation to a previous incident.

He is currently in custody being questioned by officers.

Crews from Lymm Fire Station helped to bring the man down.
