A DEAFNESS resource centre in Widnes is giving out spare hearing aid batteries to those in need during the coronavirus who are unable to leave the house.

Halton Sensory Services, which runs in partnership with Vision Support, provides services for deaf people, their carers and families.

Due to the current challenges presented by the covid-19 virus and guidance from central government, the centre has taken the decision to close to the public from Monday, March 23.

This means that groups such as Happy Hands, Tinnitus Group and others using the centre to meet will be cancelled until further notice.

Wendy Edwards who works at the centre said that they would still be doing their best to help the community at this time.

She said: "This is a service we provide any way and we do want to give back to the people.

"People can usually come into the office but, with the current situation, this is not possible.

"The equipment we can leave on the doorstep if a family member could come and collect it or if someone is really struggling and doesn’t have anyone to help then a member of our team could post them through the letterbox."
