A HIGH school in Widnes will remain open despite a parent testing positive for the coronavirus.

Wade Deacon High School confirmed on Tuesday that the parent had tested positive, but said the child concerned ‘is not currently in school, has no symptoms and is self-isolating’.

The government’s current advice is for schools to remain open unless directed to close by Public Health England.

In a letter to parents, the school said: “We continue to put in place measures to maintain a safe learning environment for students and staff.

“We would ask for your support in not making any non-urgent calls or visits to the school whilst we focus on the students and staff each day – we have taken the decision to cancel some planned internal events and some educational visits.”

The school also asked parents to keep their children at home if they showed symptoms of coronavirus.
