The owners of an independent micro pub say they are here to give drinkers a social alternative after expanding their business into Bromborough.

The Bow-Legged Beagle opens its doors in the heart of Bromborough village today and promises to bring drinkers a no-fuss drinking environment, offering the finest locally-produced real ales and craft beers.

Owners John Smith and Andy Williams successfully opened their first pub in New Brighton over two years ago before adding further premises in Upton, but believe they have spotted a gap in the market at the other end of the borough.

Speaking exclusively to the Globe, Andy said: “We do one thing only and that’s sell drinks.

“We don’t sell food. So it fits in nicely with restaurants and cafes. It adds to a town.

“The beer offering in Bromborough, in my opinion, is falling short. I think it’s a good opportunity and the good people around here will enjoy it.”

Business partner John added: “Business is booming. Wherever we have gone we have been welcomed into the communities and people are happy to see us come.

Wirral Globe:

“What’s lacking in a lot of pubs these days is a community. Lots of places have been turning to food, people expecting carveries. Pubs have lost their character. People have gone there to eat, sat insular, not talking to each other. What we’ve found with our pubs is that people come in, even on their own, they talk to us and soon they are talking to other people.

“It’s not about getting drunk, it’s about enjoying a good drink and meeting people.”

The Globe was granted exclusive access to view the watering hole before opening its doors, but in line with their simple philosophy, no grand opening event was planned.

The dog-friendly establishment is named after John’s bow-legged family canine, Bobby, who he drew inspiration from when planning his first pub.

The Bromborough venue has been initially set up with four real ale pumps with a pale ale, IPA, stout and bitter on at all times. In addition there are eight keg taps on offer, ranging from cherry Belgian beer to Latte stouts and mango beer as well as an extensive gin and wine list.

“It’s not just about the beer for us. The beer’s important but the important thing is it’s not exclusive, it’s about bringing people in who are going to meet others and have a good time.

“Drinks are the reason people come in, the reason people stay is a different thing.”
