A 22-YEAR-OLD woman struck gold twice at a disability badminton competition.

Hannah Payton, from Atherton, who has down syndrome, won gold in the women's doubles and mixed doubles and silver in the singles at the 4 Nations Disability Badminton Championships in Glasgow.

She also won gold in mixed doubles at the event last year.

Her mum Jutta, 53, and dad Mark, 57, watched Hannah win her medals on Saturday and Sunday.

Jutta said: "We are very proud of Hannah.

"It was nerve-wracking watching her play in all her games and she did very well.

"She is very happy and cannot believe how much she has improved."

Talented sportswoman Hannah, who plays for Bryn Specials badminton club, has also won a number of national swimming medals in the past.

Badminton is now the priority for Hannah, who is set to compete in the Special Olympics Great Britain in Liverpool next year.

Hannah, who volunteers at Memories Tea Rooms in Atherton and as an usher at The Lowry theatre in Salford, maintains her fitness at Astley VIP Boxing.
