TOWN centre music bar Retros has announced that it is to close at the end of this month.

The venue on High Street previously said that it was considering closure in November last year, but decided to fight to stay open in ‘the town it loves’.

Part of this fight involved moving to bigger premises to expand on the experience it can offer to customers.

But as this has not been possible, coupled with a drop in trade in recent months, the owners have now said that the bar will close later this month.

A post on Retros’ Facebook page read: “It is with great regret that Retros will close on Saturday, February 29.

“As a lot of people know, we had hoped for a move so we could expand on what we do.

“This has not been possible for certain reasons, and with trade dropping over the past five months and also being used as just a late-night bar as of late, we have no option to close as the bills far out way the income.

“We would like to thank everyone who has attended over the past four years and also a massive thanks to all our staff past and present.

“We would love for everyone to come down on the next two Friday and Saturday nights and help us to see out the end in style … Retros style.”

Retros had previously said that it would look to run a number of themed nights to try and increase footfall after being unable to secure a new location.

It revealed at the end of last year that it had tried to acquire the old Madison’s building and then a space in Barons Quay, however attempts were unsuccessful due to landlords.

The decision has been met with true sadness by customers, who will no doubt be gutted to see the bar close.

One comment on the post read: “Gutted for you guys. There’ll be nowhere to go in town now where you can be yourself and have a good old laugh, a drink and a dance.”

Another said: “Such a shame. We always have a great night with the best music. There’s no place like this in Northwich.”
