A LARGE section of a car park in Ellesmere Port will be closed off while work to remove tree stumps is carried out.

Cheshire West and Chester Council will be removing the remaining stumps in the Civic Way car park in Ellesmere Port on Sunday (February 23).

A large section of the car park will need to be closed off for the duration of the work, which is scheduled to take place between 8am and 6pm.

Following inspections, a number of cypress trees in the car park were found to be in a poor state of health and had to be removed.

If the trees had been allowed to deteriorate any further they could have become a danger to the public using the car park. The remaining stumps now need to be removed.

The council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, highways and strategic transport, Councillor Karen Shore, said: “The safety of the public is of paramount importance in this busy area and we apologise for any inconvenience caused while a section of the car park is closed for the work to be carried out.”
