A RUNCORN Primary School has raised hundreds of pounds for the Australian bushfires.

The school council at Victoria Road Primary School organised a competition between classes to see who could fill a large map of Australia with 50p coins.

An incredible £355 was raised.

Mrs Taylor, year 5 teacher, said: "Our children heard about the devastation in Australia and wanted to find a way to help the animals whose habitats have been destroyed.

"They came up with the idea of filling the map and asked each class to take part.

"Parents have been so generous and have sent in lots of donations and we are very grateful for their continued support and generosity."
