THE FIGHT against selfish drivers continues in Bradford as residents and business owners demand more respect when it comes to parking.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Earlier this month, the T&A told of one businessman's endless frustration with "horrendous" parking on Leeds Road.

In just one incident, the driver of a VW Golf blocked the pavement in front of EastZEast before spending hours at a meal.

And it wasn't just a one-off, he explained, with the worst parking reported to be on Friday nights and weekends.

The businessman said: "It's not safe for anyone, whether it's the elderly or children. It's clearly not on.

"I feel they need to be fined."

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Some individuals have no respect or care for our environment. They deliberately destroy the pavements which are for pedestrian use, cause inconvenience to neighbours distress to parents with Prams and wheelchair users. They create their own Highway Code rules and if you try to educate the ignorant individual they become defensive and find every reason to justify their selfish behaviour of parking on a pavement. B4B will work with BFD council and local councillors to eradicate this menace from our streets and roads. - Inayah Sher of Bradford4Better

Councillor questions effectiveness of traffic orders after seeing 13 cars parked illegally on Leeds Road

This month, Bradford Council voted for a committee of councillors to look at the available options to tackle motorists who park on the pavement.

Brought forward by Councillor Alun Griffiths (Lib Dem, Idle and Thackley), the motion said “parking on pavements is ‘detrimental to the quality of life of those in the locality,’ especially the elderly, disabled and those with young children.”

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Meanwhile police are hard at work with Operation Steerside, aimed at toughening up on drivers who don't uphold the law.

How can I report bad parking to police?

People should contact the Bradford force behind Operation Steerside, who now have a dedicated email address: bd.steerside@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

This is for: Dash cam recordings, passing on information about illegal drivers or cars and telling officers about areas where you think they need to patrol.

People can also use the 101 live chat service.

What is your response?A car is being parked on the pavement clearly blocking members of the public from walking across the path to them move onto a very busy road which is highly dangerous. All four wheels on the pedestrian path way. Quite clearly people are still parking in a way causing distress to others with no care or concern whatsoever for people.

What is your response?Just about every weekend and through the week cars are parked up on the pathways causing obstructions for the disabled and pushchairs. As we know it does state in the highway code that if a roadway is marked then that rule applies to the pathway as well. Local council know of this problem and nothing seems to get done. So the traffic wardens could actually get revenue from this if they came up here. Even when the school runs happen they still park in permit only places as well as marked pathways. But they also block off the disabled ramp ways on the paths. What really makes you laugh it that the school has hundreds of parking areas within the ground but very rarely get used for the football pitches based on Haycliffe Lane. I have sent a message to the school just saying put up a notice on the gates of the football pitch so cure it but I didn't get any response. We even get them driving up the wrong way on the one way system. It seems the school has no interest of this problem, but it's them which has caused this, simple letters and notices should help, Councillor Joanne Dodds knows this problem well. This is my last resort in trying to get some help, when you have seen wheelchairs using the road then no consideration has been given by these lazy people who want to park as close as they can to the football pitch.

What is your response? Can't be bothered, no respect. Look at the state of the brand new paving flags, the council resorts to tarmacing the damaged paving. There's no hope.

What is your response? This parked car fully blocks the pedestrian pavement. Many parents use this route to take their kids to nearby schools and nurseries. This driver forces parents, with young children and babies in pushchair, to walk on the road to continue their journey. This photo is taken beginning of January 2020 in very busy school morning.

What is your response? This is Leeds City Council van parked in Thornbury (everyday) for hours at a time so I expect the driver lives locally. It parks so far on the path that even without my pram it’s difficult trying to squeeze through. The road itself isn’t a busy one, but definitely a dangerous one that drivers from Leeds Road use to avoid traffic at busy times. Many of them speeding. I did flag this with Leeds Council and they have sorted out the issue with the driver and he no longer parks there, but it’s just one of many examples of inconsiderate parking in Bradford.

What is your response? The driver of this car regularly parks (not only to drop-off kids) on this same spot every morning (8.30-8.45) in front of Poplars Farm Primary School and Nursery and creates a road block and safety hazard for all other road users especially the kids/parents crossing the road. As we all know this type of parking (on 'keep-clear' markings) is illegal and as a matter of fact it also shows a clear disrespect to all the efforts that both the parents and the school combinedly put forward to maintain a safe environment for the kids. I've requested the school to make a note of this as a matter of urgency and try to warn this driver of their unacceptable attitude and practice.
