PLANS to turn a town centre nightclub that was last used as a multi-million pound cannabis farm into flats look set to be massively expanded.

A scheme to turn Club Wired in Warrington town centre into 10 apartments was approved by Warrington Borough Council back in 2018.

But work has yet to start and those plans were pulled this week.

However a new scheme for 22 flats looks set to be forthcoming.

It includes a two-storey extension to the building, based on the corner of Mersey Street and Smith Street.

The nightclub, which has stood vacant for more than seven years, was raided by Cheshire Police in 2015.

A cannabis farm worth as much as £6m was found inside, with three men from Vietnam later jailed for 12 years in connection with the grow.
