AN ARSON investigation is under way after a wheelie bin was set alight in a bookmakers' doorway.
Fire crews were called to the bookies on Warrington Road, Widnes in the early hours of this morning.
Two fire engines attended shortly after 3.30am.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 3.40am firefighters from Widnes and Penketh were called to reports of a fire at a commercial building on Warrington Road.
"On arrival the crews discovered that a wheelie bin had been pushed into the doorway of a bookmakers and deliberately set alight.
"Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for around one hour.
"Anyone with any information in relation to the fire is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 566993."
-Elsewhere in Widnes on Saturday, crews put out a small skip fire on Tan House Lane shortly after 10pm.
Meanwhile, crews were called to a property on Brandon, Widnes ahortly after 5.20pm after a fire involving a toaster. One person was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.
