SERVICES of remembrance for those who have lost their lives in conflict take place in Widnes and Runcorn this weekend.

They will be held on Sunday, November 10.

The Widnes service will be held at the War Memorial, Victoria Park, Widnes, at 10.45am, and the Runcorn Service will be held at the Cenotaph, Greenway Road, Runcorn, at 3pm.

The Royal British Legion has made an appeal to the general public and to organisations to observe a two minutes' silence on Monday, November 11 at 11am.

A council spokeswoman said: "As we remember the fallen, we can also look towards 8 May 2020 which is the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe.

"We are also reminded that Halton is home to nearly 178 Commonwealth War Graves, which are tended by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

"Of these, 105 relate to the fallen of World War One and 73 from World War Two and later battles overseas..
