A PROTESTER who chained himself to the Widnes end of the Silver Jubilee bridge this morning has ended his campaign after talks with police.
It is unclear, at this stage, what the protest was about, but the man appeared to be preparing for a long stand off and, according to one eyewitness, had brought a packed lunch.
The bridge is currently being refurbished ahead of its reopening next year, but work was stopped as a safety precaution and to allow the police to work.
A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Officers were called to reports that a man was protesting on the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Widnes.
"Officers attended the scene and spoke to the man and he ended his protest at around 9.30am".
Merseyflow, who operate the bridge, have also been contacted for comment on this morning's protest.
