TWO swans have been rescued by firefighters after becoming stranded in a Widnes canal.
Emergency Services were called at around 12pm on Monday, October 14 following reports that two swans were stranded in an overflow pipe in the canal near Johnsons Lane.
Two firefighters in swift water kit entered the one-foot-deep canal alongside an RSPCA inspector who assisted.
A gas monitor was then used to ensure the area was safe and managed to rescue one of the swans.
They then used a raft to rescue the second swan.
Both swans were handed over to the care of the RSPCA.
