POLICE are hunting a gang of yobs who were spotted 'launching fireworks' towards cars in Birkenhead.

At around 8.10pm on Sunday, October 13 police received a report that a group of around 11 yobs were setting off fireworks at a park near St James Road.

Witnesses say that the youths were setting off the fireworks towards oncoming cars.

Officers confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and find those responsible.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Community inspector Georgie Minnery said: "To set off fireworks in this manner in not only incredibly dangerous and irresponsible but causes a nuisance to the local community.

β€œIt is against the law to carry or use adult fireworks if you are under 18, and illegal for people of any age to let off or throw a firework in a public place.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries into this incident and I would urge people to please report any information on anti-social behaviour in the area so we can act on it.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police at @MerPolCC, call 101 quoting ref. 086 of 14/10/19.

Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
