THE Met Office has issued a yellow warning as heavy rain has hit the area today.

Heavy showers have fallen today as the wet weather looks set to stay through the weekend.

The Met Office has a yellow warning with the wet weather expected to continue.

Its regional forecast for today says: "Showers and some longer spells of rain at first will ease a little through the day, with bright or sunny spells developing for many for the afternoon. However occasional showers may linger in the south throughout the day. Maximum temperature 17 °C."

For tonight it adds: "Isolated showers give way to spells of heavy rain during the evening as wet weather spreads northwards."

On Sunday in the north west heavy and possibly thundery showers and longer spells of rain will clear slowly eastwards from late morning onwards, with some sunny spells developing late in the day and wind during the afternoon."
