1. Arroy Thai Restaurant

Based on Widnes Road, Arroy Thai Restaurant tops the Tripadvisor ranking with a 4.5.
Having received a certificate of excellence from the travel website every year since 2017, the restaurant is known for its Asian/Thai cuisine and has vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
One recent review said: "If you've not eaten Thai before, don't worry. You can choose the strength of the curry sauce you want with your quality meat and vegetables. The coconut soup starter is just divine. Chicken and rice served in half a pineapple is gorgeous and a talking point! Love going there."
2. La Cantina

Situated at 17-19 Alforde Street, La Cantina has a rating of 4.5 and has received a certificate of excellence for this year.
The restaurant specialises in Italian/Mediterranean/European/Spanish/British and Central European cuisine and again has options for all dietary requirements.
One review, posted two weeks ago, reads: "Have been a few times, food is excellent. Beware of the large portions, staff very attentive and atmosphere is good as well for a very large room."
3. Pesto Widnes

Based on Birchfield Road Farnworth, Pesto Widnes specialises in Italian style tapas dishes.
With all dietary requirements catered for, the restaurant has a rating of 4.5 and has won a certificate of excellence every year since 2015.
A recent reviewer posted: "I visited with friends on Saturday 21 September from 6 pm.
"The restaurant was very busy but the staff and the food was excellent. I go regularly and have never been disappointed. The staff although busy were very attentive and helpful and cheerful. The food was spot on and we didn't feel rushed and made very welcome.
"Thank you and see you all soon. Keep up the excellent service."
4. The Crown Inn Widnes

With a rating of 4.5, The Crown Inn Widnes is situated at 104 Birchfield Road and has won a certificate of excellence every year since 2015.
The British pub style menu, it caters for all dietary requirements and offers lunch, brunch and dinner.
One reviewer wrote: "I’ve visited three times in the last couple of months.
"Afternoon tea, Sunday lunch and on a Friday night. On every occasion we have received the best service by staff and the food is amazing.
"All fresh and cooked from scratch. Just can’t fault it."
5. Maplewood Restaurant

Based on Warrington Road and adjacent to Clock Face Road, there sits Maplewood Restaurant. With a four-star rating, the eatery has won a certificate of excellence in 2015, 2016, 2017 and in 2019.
Specialising in Chinese cuisine, the restaurant caters for all requirements.
One recent review said: "Amazing friendly staff who are very attentive and delicious food.
"Restaurant was very busy but enough staff on so that food served without a wait.
"Food is gorgeous. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Favourite Chinese restaurant."
6. Marie's Chippy

Although strictly a chip shop, Marie's Chippy on Millfield Road has earned it's place on the TripAdvisor top 10.
With a rating of 4.5, Marie's Chippy offers lunch and dinner and has been hailed as 'the best chippy in Widnes.'
One reviewer wrote: "We live in Runcorn but when we want fish and chips there's no other chippy that can match Marie's.
"You always have to queue which shows that it is very popular.
"The fish is cooked to order the batter is always crispy, the fish is white and delicious, the chips are always fresh and the mushy peas are lovely.
"It's worth travelling over the bridge to Widnes to go here. I would certainly recommend this place."
7. Tea for Two

Situated at 144 Widnes Road, Tea for Two has a 4.5 rating and won a certificate of excellence in 2016.
Although strictly a cafe, Tea for Two serves breakfast, brunch and lunch while catering for both vegetarians and vegans.
One reviewer said: "We visited this wonderful cafe today and it was really excellent, nice pot of tea and good menu as well
"I had a jacket potato with homemade chicken curry topping whilst my better half had a lovely tuna toastie, we will definitely return as the tower of tea for two afternoon teas looked lovely.
"Very pleasant staff and spotlessly clean, it earns my first excellent review."
8. FM Caffe

Based on Widnes Road, FM Caffe has a rating of 4.5 and has received a certificate of excellence in 2015 through to 2017.
Specialising in British and Mediterranean food, FM Caffe serves up breakfast, brunch and lunch - what's better is that it is vegetarian friendly.
A recent reviewer wrote: "Visit occasionally, but food and service excellent whenever visited.
"Prices reasonable for quality and quantity. Friendly venue for all age groups."
9. Desii Indian Cuisine

Situated at 7-15 Alforde Street, Desii Indian Cuisine has a 4.5 rating and received a certificate of excellence every year from 2015 to 2018.
The restaurant caters for both vegetarians and vegans while offering dinner and after-hours service.
One reviewer wrote: "Visited this evening and could not fault the food or the service.
"We both had starters and main courses with sides of poppadoms and naan bread and a bottle of wine followed by brandy coffees. Could not fault anything.
"Asked about the Christmas menus which will be available soon and looking at the website it looks reasonably priced too."
10. The Tavern

With a 4 rating, The Upton Tavern is situated at 288 Upton Lane and boasts classic pub grub.
It has been awarded with a certificate of excellence this year and serves lunch, dinner and drinks. It also caters for all dietary requirements and offers afternoon tea.
A recent reviewer said: "Well worth a visit.
"Fresh food perfectly cooked and nicely presented.the staff were pleasant and helpful .the decor is also pleasant and relaxing.
"Had a lovely evening definitely be back."
