A MAN remains in a life-threatening condition after an incident.

Police and emergency services went to Belmont Street, Bognor in the early hours of this morning.

A 32-year-old man suffered “critical injuries”.

The air ambulance was called, and the man was flown to Southampton hospital after the incident at 1.30am.

It is understood that a light coloured or silver car was near to the incident and the driver may have information to help police about what happened.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Geldart is leading the inquiry, called Operation Fairford.

The Major Crime Team detective said: “Our investigation is at an early stage and we are working to establish the full circumstances.

“In particular we are keen to trace the driver of a light or silver coloured car which was seen nearby at the time, who may have information that could assist.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have other information that could help us is urged to come forward as soon as possible.”

In a statement, the police said: “We are currently at the scene investigating a serious incident in Bognor in which a 32-year-old man has sustained critical injuries.

“Just before 1.50am on Sunday the local man was found in Belmont Street, Bognor.

“He was taken by air ambulance to hospital in Southampton. His injuries are described as life threatening.”
