A HOUSING association in Halton has partnered with leading UK universities for a project to develop, test and demonstrate technologies to measure the thermal performance of homes.

Halton Housing is part of consortium awarded the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy's "Smart Meter Enabled Thermal Efficiency Ratings" contract for technical assessment.

The project uses smart meters and other data to measure thermal performance.

As part of the project, Halton Housing is providing 45 homes over a four-month period to take part in the trial.

Once complete, an in-depth trial will begin using special sensors in the 45 of Halton Housing’s homes to find a precise way to measure the same value in a less intrusive way.

Halton Housing's Lee Reevell said: "This is an exciting opportunity and will pave the way for future endeavours.

"The data set created from the homes we are providing for this project will shape the future of this technology and will be the first of its kind utilising state of the art networks."
