A MAJOR food festival returns this weekend, promising a treat for all the family.
Newtown Food Festival takes place across Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, from 10am to 5pm.
Organised by the not-for-profit Newtown Food Festival Community Interest Company, admission is free.
Exhibitors include Parva Spices, Merlin Cheeses, Woodlands Ice Cream, Kerry Vale Vineyard and Radnor Preserves.
Throughout both days there will be entertainment with food demonstrations in the festival kitchen, and activities for children and adults, from puppet maker Ruby Gibbens to a singing workshop.
There will be a music stage with day acts ranging from Saxophone Sundae and Abi Foster to the Newtown Male Voice Choir. There will also be an evening stage featuring the likes of Ross Embrey and Lucky Pierre.
Celebrations will also take place to mark the town’s 20 year twinning association with Les Herbiers in France.
Town mayor, Cllr David Selby, said: “You can enjoy a packed programme of events. Our festival presents food in a relaxed family atmosphere supported by local musicians on the festival stage.
“The festival kitchen will give you the opportunity to join a variety of chefs and demonstrators see them in action and taste their recipes. The heart of the festival is the producers marquee where a wonderful variety of independent producers present their wares near and far.”
“The festival also couldn’t happen without a group of dedicated volunteers who form the Newtown Food Festival CIC.
“I cannot thank this volunteer team enough for all the time and energy they put into organising our festival.”
