In 1947, aged eleven. Runcorn resident Roy Gough acquired his first camera.

As his passion for photography grew, Roy set up his own dark room to develop films and print pictures.

Since then he’s taken thousands of photographs, capturing images of Runcorn and beyond.

Now an exhibition highlighting a wealth of more than 70 years of work will be on show at The Brindley.

His life through a lens is at Halton Council's award winning venue from this Friday, August 30, to Friday, November 29, as part of a commitment to support local culture. It is free to view and features his particular interest in railways, buses, canals and street photography.

Roy has always enjoyed photographing people, at work and going about their everyday lives.

Over the last 70 years, his photographs have reflected the changes in the town and society as a whole.

His photographs feature in many books on local history and he is a social historian, as well as a keen amateur photographer.

The Brindley Gallery is open 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
