Carlisle firefighters were called to a kitchen fire to the west of the city yesterday evening.
The fire broke out at a property in Burgh by Sands at about 5.20pm on Saturday.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "Two fire engines were mobilised to reports of a kitchen fire.
"On arrival, the kitchen was well alight."
Two firefighters tackled the fire directly using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and positive pressure ventilation to bring it under control.
The firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
