TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved landlord who was stabbed to death outside his pub.

Christian Thornton, aged 49, sustained serious stab wounds following an incident near the Hammer and Pincers pub in Liverpool Road on Sunday, August 11 at 3.20pm.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, Mr Thornton died at the scene.

Lee Abbott, aged 35, of no fixed abode, Widnes, has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon and appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court today.

A 39-year-old woman who was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has subsequently been bailed pending further inquiries.
