A PUB in Lymm has been named by The Times as one of the best in Britain for the summer season.

The Church Green, on Higher Lane, made it in to the top 40 pubs on the list published in today’s newspaper, Saturday, after being commended by reviewers Richard Mellor and Andy Lynes.

They were particularly impressed by the menu on offer at what they called an ‘upmarket Cheshire gastropub’, which has been produced by talented chef Aiden Byrne.

Among the ‘sophisticated creations’ the reviewers highlighted is a pea mousse starter, which comes served with Parma ham, lemon ricotta and croutons.

The Times also praised the pub for their sirloin, fillet and rib eye steaks, which each come with beef dripping chips, tomato, mushroom and a watercress and herb butter.

Kirby-born Byrne was the youngest chef to hold a Michelin star when he was aged only 22 and he appeared on MasterChef in 2008.

He now owns The Church Green and has worked in a number of Michelin star restaurants across the country.

The popular pub also retained their two AA Rosettes for the 2018/2019 Restaurant Guide in October 2018.

Rosettes are awarded to: “Excellent restaurants that aim for and achieve higher standards and better consistency.

“A greater precision is apparent in their cooking, and there will be obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients”

Speaking about the retention of their rosettes, The Church Green said: “Our team have worked consistently hard over the past year with Aiden’s guidance to deliver exceptional quality using only the best local ingredients and suppliers.”
