THREE Warrington men have found a rather unusual way to raise money for charity which involves an eight-foot Father Christmas.

Peter Tarpey, along with son Lewis and friend Jeff, are travelling around the town with the giant figure so that people can have pictures with it.

The trio have already raised almost £250 in just four weeks, which will go straight to St Rocco’s Hospice.

And unsurprisingly, the group have received a lot of attention from amused members of the public, but Peter says this is a great way to raise awareness for the charity.

“It was just really random how it all started as we bought it on a whim, but it’s just a really fun thing to do for charity,” he said.

“We contacted St Rocco’s as they are a great charity and they were more than happy about us doing it and even gave us T-shirts to wear.

“The three of us are from Warrington and the Father Christmas is from Warrington Market, so we felt it was right to raise money for a Warrington charity.”

Peter also said that they all enjoy travelling with the giant figure across Warrington and are hoping to raise even more during the festive season.

“We do get some funny looks carrying it around town, but we have fun doing it and the kids definitely have fun taking pictures with it,” he added.

“It’s got people talking and asking us plenty of questions about why we are doing it, so we can tell them about the great work that the charity do.

“As long as it keeps raising money for charity, we’ll carry on doing what we’re doing and hopefully we can raise even more when it gets to Christmas time.”
