MICRO brewery Modern Day Monks were crowned Warrington’s best young traders at an event supporting the next generation of start ups.

More then 20 budding businesses sold their products and demonstrated their services to around 2,000 people at the first Warrington Young Traders Market.

As well as encouraging people aged between 16 to 30 to sample markets for free, the Young Traders Market scheme is also a nationwide competition, aiming to find the ‘National Young Trader of the Year’.

Last year it was won by Warrington Market’s own greengrocer Rob Leicester.

The judges were so impressed by the quality of the businesses that 11 young traders progressed to the next round of the contest.

Council leader Russ Bowden said: “The Young Traders Market is a great initiative and it was encouraging to see so many talented young people take the opportunity to trade at the event.”

The north west regional final of the Young Traders Market also takes place outside Warrington Market on Saturday, August 3, from 10am.
