A CHARITY walk in memory of a popular Northwich man saw more than 30 people take on a 30-mile challenge.

The Dave Holman Challenge, named in honour of a cyclist who died in July 2016, is now in its fourth year and this year saw more diverse participation than ever with a localised route.

The inaugural walk in 2016 took place just weeks after Dave came off his bike on the A556 at Plumley after a collision with a lorry.

Initially planned in aid of children's charity Tiny Steps – of which Dave was a supporter – the walk went ahead and has continued to raise money for the cause each year since.

Northwich Guardian:

Walkers left Carey Park at 7.30am on Saturday, July 13 for this year's event, walking up to Barnton before following the canal down to Middlewich, onto Winsford and back up to Davenham for a celebratory drink at the Oddfellows Arms around 12 hours later.

Organiser Michelle Rayner, who went to school with Dave and is a Tiny Steps trustee, said: "It was a really lovely day.

"It's very much an enjoyable day and we make regular stops. People come from all over the country to remember Dave, and every year we make friends with people we have never met.

"It's one of my highlights of the year – it's very emotional but so enjoyable as well."

The walk – more accessible than in previous years, being closer to home and with a flat course – drew in families with toddlers taking part alongside walkers in their 70s.

Thinkprint provided t-shirts featuring the Tiny Steps logo and Dave's name.
