A PETITION calling for better protection of the vulnerable and elderly is now live, with signatures already coming in from across the UK.

Winnington woman Catherine Walker wants tougher punishments for carers found guilty of assault, ill-treatment or wilful neglect of someone in their care.

Northwich Guardian:

Catherine's dad, George Stenhouse, was assaulted in his care home bed by an agency worker, who was purportedly caring for the 68-year-old who suffered from a rare brain disease.

Vangirai Michael Kufa was caught on camera hitting and manhandling Mr Stenhouse, but current law meant his sentence limited to nine months – of which he will serve half.

Northwich Guardian:

Catherine is now calling on the Government to adopt 'George's Law'.

She said: "We could all ended up in the same situation.

“There will be other families in this position. Hopefully we have opened up the discussion and opened people’s eyes to that fact that this kind of thing goes on.

“I don’t want anyone else to experience what we have been through, and if we can make a change for one family then that’s good.”
