There will be road closures on Liverpool Road, Widnes, when major roadworks start next Monday, July 22.
The scheme involves full reconstruction of the carriageway and kerbing work from Hale Road/Prescot Road junction to Heath Road.
The council said this important route is in need of urgent repair.
The work will be done in three phases.
The road closure will be between the traffic lights junction at Hale Road/Prescot Road junction and Heath Road.
The closure will be in phased lengths to allow access for residents and businesses.
A signed diversion will be in place.
From Heath Road to the traffic lights junction at Lower House Lane, "haunch" repairs and surfacing will be carried out.
Haunching is repairs to the outer edges of the carriageway, about two metres wide on either side.
This is because the road has lost its shape on both sides due to the volume of traffic over years of wear.
This work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights.
The work is expected to finish on September 2.
