A WOMAN from Widnes has been arrested after a four-year-old boy reportedly ingested an unknown substance.

The incident happened at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool city centre on Saturday.

Officers from Merseyside Police were called to the hotel by the North West Ambulance Service at around 9.55am following a report the boy had ingested the substance.

While the boy did not show signs of ill health, he was taken to Alder Hey Hospital for observation and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The substance has been recovered for testing.

A 39-year-old woman from Widnes was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug and child neglect.

She has since been released under investigation.
