A FLOOD warning has been put in place for Widnes as heavy rain continues to pour.

An amber warning for flooding has been put in place with river levels rising there is flooding on low land, roads and farmland until tonight (Wednesday, June 12).

The Environment Agency say there is a possibility of flooding around the following areas: Ditton; Logwood Mill; Fox's Bank; Dog Clog; Stewards and Netherley Brooks.

In a statement, a spokesman said: "Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.

"We expect river levels to peak at midday on Wednesday, June 12.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further updates as necessary."
