OUTSTANDING apprentices were awarded during a special awards evening event at Riverside College.

Students who work at some of the top companies in the UK were recognised for their achievements and commitment during the Apprentice Awards Evening.

The event opened with speeches from college principal Mary Murphy and Halton councillor Eddie Jones who both highlighted the importance of apprenticeships and how vital they are to the industry.

These speeches were followed by an inspirational talk from former engineering apprentice Alex Bygrave, who spoke about his time as an apprentice at the college and the benefits it has had on his career as a successful engineer.

From companies such as Redrow Homes Ltd, Halton Borough Council and Plus Dane Housing, a total of eleven apprentices received an award.

Deserving of a special mention is Overall Apprentice of the Year Chloe O’Sullivan-Morgan, an Electrical Installation Apprentice working with Plus Dane Housing and employer of the year North West Contracts Ltd.

After collecting their awards, the apprentices gathered for a photograph with the Mayor of Halton, Councillor Margaret Horabin, who came to show her support for the event and celebrate this fantastic achievement with the apprentices.

Head of employer services Jayne Smith said: “It was truly inspirational evening and our awards recognised the remarkable efforts and outstanding achievements of our apprentices.

"We also recognised the significant contribution and support provided by the employers who are championing apprentices in their business.”
